The Colgate-Palmolive Grant for Alternative Research will identify and support efforts that promote, develop, refine, or validate scientifically acceptable animal alternative methods to facilitate the safety assessment of new chemicals and formulations. Scientists at any stage of career progression may submit a proposal. High priority will be given to projects that use in vitro or non-animal models in one of the following research areas: (1) reproductive and developmental toxicology; (2) neurotoxicology; (3) systemic toxicology; (4) sensitization; or (5) acute toxicity. Applicants will be assessed based on their capacity to conduct the described research. Applicants must work in an established laboratory or have access to a laboratory capable of performing the research detailed in the submission, and applicants will be evaluated based on level of training, experience, and competence commensurate with proposed research. The quality of past scientific publications will also be considered. Applicants do not have to be a current member of the Society of Toxicology. The project must clearly lie within the primary research areas defined, must have potential for advancing the field of study, and must be determined to have a future impact on experiments involving animals and the method replaces the use of animals in research. Applicants must submit a proposal, including (1) title of proposed project and key words; (2) abstract containing a brief description of the project in understandable terms; and (3) body of the proposal. Applicants must also submit a signed institutional letter attesting that the applicant has access to a laboratory. Please visit the award's website for more information.
