The Herbert Fernandes Memorial Scholarship is a non-renewable award offered through the Luso-American Education Foundation to support continuing education for re-entry college students. The number of scholarships may vary. Applicants must be official residents of the United States and either of Portuguese or Lusophone descent or able to demonstrate formal study in Portuguese language or culture. A minimum GPA of 3.5 is required, or 3.0 if the applicant is currently taking or has previously taken Portuguese language courses. Eligible candidates must also be either actively involved in a Portuguese American community or have completed Portuguese language coursework at the college level.
