The training of a new generation of psychiatric academicians is a major objective of the Society of Biological Psychiatry. In recognition of the importance of academic exchange, the Society of Biological Psychiatry (SOBP) annually selects distinguished early career investigators from outside of North American and from one of the following five IBRO Regions (Africa, Asian/Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, Western Europe) who would benefit from attending the annual meeting of the Society of Biological Psychiatry. Priority will be given to applicants from less developed and less well-funded countries. Travel Awards recognize excellence in scholarly activity by junior researchers by providing the opportunity to attend the annual meeting and participate in special programming for the awardees. Applicants qualify based on their home institution. Individuals outside of North America and from one of the following five IBRO regions (Africa, Asian/Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, Western Europe) who meet the eligibility criteria may submit an application. Applicants must be within 10 years of completing their terminal research degree or within ten years of completing their medical residency at the time of application. Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants do not need to be published to apply for the Early Career Investigator-International award. Publications will, however, add to the value of the application. Selections will be made based on strength of personal statement, biosketch, and need for travel funding. Applicants must submit a letter of nomination by the Department or Program Chair or faculty mentor. Applicants must also submit a NIH biosketch (preferred) or short curriculum vita. Please visit the award's website for more information.
