In memory of WASP pilot Elaine D. Harmon, this scholarship will provide funds for tailwheel endorsement training. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and assist pilots to become involved in the warbird and vintage aircraft community to keep these historic airplanes flying. Warbirds and vintage airplanes bring a piece of history to the aviation community and help educate the public. The tailwheel endorsement is generally a requirement to pursue a warbird pilot rating. Accordingly, this scholarship is intended to support a pilot who is interested in further training to fly warbirds or vintage planes. International candidates are welcome to apply, but the training must take place in the United States. Applicants must be current WAI members and are encouraged to research if they meet the minimum certification requirements to pursue this training at their United States provider of choice. The funds will be paid directly to the training provider and must be used within one year of receiving the award. All applicants must be current WAI members with an expiration date of March 30, 2026 or later. Applicants must also submit two letters of recommendation. Letters should not be from family members.
