The George H. Hitchings New Investigator Award in Health Research will support pre-doctoral research in the health sciences with awards annually to students working toward a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University. The award will provide flexible support for young researchers currently in their second year of graduate school. Students who expect to follow a career path in academic teaching and research are encouraged to apply. Applicants must submit a sponsor's statement of nomination, which must present the institution's reasons for nominating the candidate, verify that the applicant meets the award's eligibility requirements and describe the expected impact of the award on the applicant's research or training. Applicants must also submit their Research Plan. Rather than the standard style of most scientific proposals, this application must address two points: (1) What do you propose to do? (2) What is driving you, personally, to take on this particular project? A letter of recommendation from an individual who is the primary mentor of the applicant on the research project must also be submitted.
