Fulbright-Scotland Distinguished Scholar at the University of Edinburgh, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (All Disciplines) (Government Aid)
The Fulbright Scotland Distinguished Scholar Award at Edinburgh contributes to the intellectual life of the university though seminars, public lectures and curriculum development in any discipline within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences based at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (IASH) for six months. In addition to conducting academic research, the University would expect the Distinguished Scholar to participate in lectures, research seminars and staff seminars at both the host School and the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities. Ph.D. (or other terminal degree) is required. Applicants may be artists, mid-career academics, professionals, senior academics, and community college faculty. The program is designed for eminent scholars with substantial experience and publications in their respective fields. Candidates who have not recently spent a considerable time in the UK are preferred. Candidates should have strong reasons for wishing to pursue the proposed project in the UK and a clear idea of what they wish to accomplish during their time as a Fulbright Scholar, not only academically, but also in terms of reaching out to the wider community and understanding their host country and culture. The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences is the largest of the three Colleges within the University of Edinburgh, and has 12 schools. While they will be based at the IASH for the duration of their visit, the Distinguished Scholar is expected to nominate a host school from the following: Business School; Centre for Open Learning; Divinity; Economics; Edinburgh College of Art; Health in Social Science; History, Classics and Archaeology; Law Literatures, Languages and Cultures; Moray House School of Education and Sport; Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences; and Social and Political Science. Interdisciplinary applications in Decoloniality, the Medical Humanities, Environmental Humanities, Digital Humanities or Women's Studies are especially welcome. An invitation letter is preferred. While it is not a requirement to have an affiliation letter for this award it is strongly recommended that applicants get in touch with their proposed host department and applications that include an affiliation letter will be much more competitive. If an applicant is struggling to make contact with their host institution they can contact the US-UK Fulbright Commission directly. The application also requires two recommendations. Please visit the award's website or contact the Council for International Exchange of Scholars for more information.
