The Mary T. Carothers Summer Environmental Studies Scholarship will be awarded to encourage studies and careers in the environmental field with the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience beyond the regular course of study. Eligibility is open to college undergraduates for summer study, who are U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are enrolled in a U.S.-based institution. The scholarship provides financial assistance to one student annually for field work, research, or classroom work. Two letters of recommendation are required to be eligible for a GCA scholarship. One must be from the applicant's advisor on their academic progress and achievements, personal qualities, and qualifications for the summer program or project the applicant has developed or selected. The second letter should be from a professor familiar with the applicant's work and interests including information on the program or project the applicant has developed or selected.
