The Minority Teacher Education Scholars Program is a collaborative performance-based scholarship program for African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian-American, Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaskan Native students. The participants in the program are students that attend Florida's public and private colleges and universities that have state-approved teacher education programs. The MTES is offered to more than 40 institutions throughout the state of Florida. Applicants must have not earned a baccalaureate degree in Education. They may have earned a baccalaureate degree in a field outside of Education. Scholars are selected on the basis of qualities that would indicate their potential to become good teachers. These qualities include writing ability, communication skills, overall academic performance, and evidence of commitment to the youth of America, preferably demonstrated through volunteer activities. Special consideration is given to state/community college graduates. Please visit the scholarship's website for more information.
