The Marion Barr Stanfield Art Scholarship is for either graduate or undergraduate Unitarian Universalist students preparing for a career in fine arts. The terms of the trust limit eligibility to those in the study of painting, drawing, photography, and/or sculpture. Performing arts majors are not eligible. Criteria for recipients include an active relationship with Unitarian Universalism, financial need, and enrollment in an accredited institution. Scholarships are awarded for one year, however students may reapply each year if they wish to continue receiving financial assistance. Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a church official. This letter should establish and comment on your Unitarian Universalist affiliation. It should come from your minister or an officer of your church. Applicants must also submit a letter of recommendation from an instructor. This letter should come from a teacher or instructor who is qualified to evaluate the applicant's educational experience. Applicants should obtain a recommendation from an instructor who is familiar with their artistic or legal qualifications. If the applicant has been out of school for a considerable amount of time, they may obtain a professional recommendation. Applicants must also submit a portfolio which should include 6-10 samples of what they consider to be their best work. The work should be recent and may be on a DVD or CD, Powerpoint is welcome.
