The Electrochemical Society has been offering summer fellowships since early 1928. These awards were established to assist students during the summer months, June through September, in the pursuit of work in a field of interest to ECS. In order to qualify for these fellowships, one must be enrolled in a college or university in addition to being a member of ECS. The award shall be made to a graduate student pursuing work between the degrees of BS and PhD in a college or university, who is a member of ECS and will continue his or her studies after the summer period. A previous holder of the award is eligible for reappointment. Preference will be given to activities that will extend the scope of the applicant's program of study such as tangential research topics or summer research at another institution. A brief resume or abstract concerning work performed shall be submitted to the Society by the recipient at the end of the award period, suitable for publication in The Electrochemical Society Interface. Applicants must provide the names of two people (one of whom should be the applicant's advisor) who are well acquainted with their work and who have agreed to write letters of recommendation. In a separate document, applicants must give a brief statement of their thesis research problem including objectives, work already accomplished, and work planned for the summer. It is important that the project that will be completed during the period of the fellowship is clearly identified. Also, applicants must indicate why they believe their research should be of interest to ECS. Please visit the fellowship's website for more information.
