Created in partnership with the Horticultural Research Institute, the Carville M. Akehurst Memorial Scholarship reflects Mr. Akehurst's belief that education creates opportunity and is essential to the future strength of the nursery and landscape profession. The scholarship continues its commitment to supporting students pursuing horticulture careers and sustaining the industry Mr. Akehurst helped shape. HRI scholarships are intended for students pursuing horticulture or closely related degrees. Applicants must be an enrolled student in good academic standing during the semester the scholarship is granted, pursuing either an Associate or Bachelor's degree, or Master's or Doctoral degree. Preference will be given to undergraduate students. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation. At least one letter must be from a professor or faculty member.
