The Del Jones Memorial Travel Award honors this African American anthropologist and dedicated SfAA member who was committed to aiding oppressed and disadvantaged communities. Established in 1999 after his passing, the fund supports two travel grants for students to attend the SfAA Annual Meeting. This award encourages minority participation in the SfAA, especially among African Americans, but it also honors the life and work of Del Jones independently of the minority criterion. Applicants must have been enrolled as a student during part of the current year. They must have an accepted paper abstract for the SfAA Annual Meeting program (poster presentations are not eligible). The accepted paper should address issues related to supporting and empowering oppressed or disadvantaged communities, reflecting Del Jones's contributions.
