The Garden Club of America Awards for Summer Environmental Studies will be awarded to encourage studies and careers in the environmental field, with the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience beyond the regular course of study. This award is open to college students following their freshman, sophomore, or junior year. These awards offer students who have demonstrated a keen interest in the betterment of the environment an opportunity for further study at a site chosen by the student. Some of the summer programs students have completed recently include the study of hazardous waste, marine science, energy, plant resources in the tropics, barrier island ecology, and oil spill cleanup and control. Eligibility is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are enrolled in a U.S.-based institution. Two letters of recommendation are required to be eligible for a GCA scholarship. One must be from the applicant's advisor on their academic progress and achievements, personal qualities, and qualifications for the summer program or project the applicant has developed or selected. The second letter should be from a professor familiar with the applicant's work and interests including information on the program or project the applicant has developed or selected. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Garden Club of America for more information.
