Bryn Mawr, founded in 1885, is a private, liberal arts college for women. Its graduate schools became coeducational in 1930. The college ranks first in the percentage of undergraduates who earn Ph.D.s in the humanities - and third in all fields - a testament to the college''s outstanding academic programs and preparation. Over one third of Bryn Mawr students major in mathematics and the sciences, three to five times the national average, and the college is among the top three institutions in numbers of women physics majors. The student body is unusually diverse: nearly one third are students of color, and an average of 10% are international students. Its 135-acre campus is located in Bryn Mawr, 11 miles west of Philadelphia.
