Truman State University, founded in 1867, is a public, liberal arts university. It is a highly selective undergraduate liberals arts and sciences institution that offers small classes and opportunities for research and "experienceships" not possible at larger campuses. Its resources - including time, energy, money, equipment, facilities and faculty - are reserved for undergraduates, making the atmosphere similar to that of a small honors college. Truman is proud to be an uncommon public institution, offering a nationally ranked liberal arts education at an affordable cost. Its 140-acre campus, with its Georgian and contemporary buildings, is located in downtown Kirksville.
