Austin Peay State University, founded in 1927, is a public, comprehensive university and is the designated liberal arts university in the Tennessee Board of Regents system. Its distinctive centers of excellence are the areas of creative arts and field biology. The school's outstanding students are eligible to participate in the President's Emerging Leaders Program, preparing them for leadership careers in business and the community by providing mentors and by special curricular and extracurricular offerings. Austin Peay State's 210-acre campus is located in Clarksville, 45 miles northwest of Nashville.
