1st Financial Bank USA wants to celebrate those who recognize the importance of pursuing educational and financial goals with the 1st Financial Bank USA Financial Goals Scholarship.
The Ian Doane Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor Ian Doane Smith, a star HYSO player and a four year all star soccer player at Maui High School. Ian loved Maui and its young people. Following his death in 2004, his family proudly established this memorial scholarship fund to honor his memory and excellence in the two sports Ian loved, surfing and soccer. The donor requires applicants to be a resident of Maui Island. The scholarship may be awarded for up to four years. Preference is for recipients who were awarded in the immediate prior year if such recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements and is in good academic standing. The following preferences, in order of priority, shall aid in the selection of recipients should the need arise: (1) students who are active participants in any of the following club or team sports: soccer, surfing, or paddling; (2) students attending the University of Hawaii, Maui College; and (3) renewal applicants. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Hawai'i Community Foundation for more information.
