Photography is one of 10 artistic disciplines in YoungArts' national competition. This discipline accepts all forms of photography including: documentary, conceptual, portrait, environment, color, black and white, alternative processes, digital, and mixed media. Applicants must be in grades 10-12 or 15-18 years of age on December 1 of the year they are applying. Strong portfolios demonstrate a mastery of the ability to take risks, develop an idea through a series of images, showcase a range of experimentation, and clearly articulate visual and conceptual ideas. Portfolio must include a total of 10 images either: (A) Two unified photo series with five images in each series. The series of photographs should be unified by concept, theme, aesthetics, and/or subject matter. (B) One unified photo series with ten images. We only recommend one series of 10 if it's an in- depth, long-term project that reflects your capacity as a photographer. Please visit the award's website for more information.
