1st Financial Bank USA wants to celebrate those who recognize the importance of pursuing educational and financial goals with the 1st Financial Bank USA Financial Goals Scholarship.
The Betsy James Wyeth Fellowship in Native American Art will be awarded annually in support of a 12-month residency for a scholar at the predoctoral level or a 9-month appointment for a postdoctoral or senior-level researcher. Residencies must take place between June 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026, and begin on the 1st or 15th of the month. The fellowship seeks to foster new scholarship on Native art of the United States that centers and elevates Indigenous methodologies, knowledge, and communities. The proposed research project should focus on historic or contemporary Native American artists, designers, and makers. In the Research Proposal, please be sure to provide and address the following: a description of the research, including the methodology to be utilized; the importance of the work, both in relation to the broader discipline and to your own scholarly goals; justification for conducting the research at the Smithsonian and utilization of research facilities and resources; the current state of consultation or collaboration with Indigenous artists and estates, knowledge holders, and communities relevant to the work, and how the research is accountable to these rights holders; permissions to utilize non-SI collections or facilities or Smithsonian collections and facilities not associated with your advisor(s), if applicable; and identification of the member of the Smithsonian's research staff who might serve as your principal advisor or host. Also identify potential co-advisor(s) and/or consultant(s), if applicable. Applicants must submit the names and email addresses of two persons familiar with their work as References. At least one letter of support from a tribal community member, knowledge holder, artist, or artist's estate is also required.
