RARE Scholars is open to persons who have been diagnosed by a physician as having any form of mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) disease, phenylketonuria (PKU), or Batten disease, regardless of treatment status. Persons are not required to be using a BioMarin product. Applicants will be asked to provide a doctor's statement with the diagnosis. Applications open each year on Rare Disease Day in late February. The program distributes up to $20,000 annually for use during the following fall semester, awarding $5,000 for undergraduate four-year or graduate studies or $2,500 for two-year or vocational-technical studies. The applicants must be a U.S. and ex-U.S. residents enrolled in U.S.-based schools, including U.S. territories. One online recommendation form must be submitted on the behalf of the applicant no later than March 29, 2021 3:00 pm. The Diagnosis Verification form must be faxed or emailed directly from your physician. Kindly see the sponsor's website for more comprehensive list of requirements.
