The New York Vietnam/Persian Gulf/Afghanistan Veterans Tuition Awards are open to eligible veterans who matriculated in an approved program at an undergraduate or graduate degree-granting institution or in an approved vocational training program in New York State (NYS). To be eligible, applicants should reside legally in NYS for a year prior to the term, be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, and meet educational requirements such as high school graduation, GED completion, or an approved "Ability to Benefit" test. They must enroll in full or part-time study at a NYS college or vocational training program, maintain academic standing, and pay a minimum of $200 in yearly tuition. Applying for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) is necessary for all undergraduate or graduate studies. Students must be free from loan defaults, follow state award conditions, and have an honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces, meeting specific service criteria related to Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, or post-February 28, 1961 hostilities. Award amounts are determined based on these criteria.
