Harvey Mudd College, founded in 1955, is a private college of engineering and science. It is one of the Claremont Colleges, a group of five undergraduate colleges and two graduate schools with adjoining campuses and shared facilities and services. Harvey Mudd is an undergraduate coeducational institution offering majors in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics and physics. HMC is distinctive in its strong emphasis on the humanities and the social sciences, which comprise one third of the undergraduate program. The college's aim is to graduate engineers and scientists sensitive to the impact of their work on society and who will assume leadership in their fields. All HMC faculty hold Ph.D.s and are committed to undergraduate teaching.
