Western Illinois University, founded in 1899, is a public, multipurpose university. It is the first state university in Illinois to offer single rooms as a predominant lifestyle. It also offers a unique Bachelor of Arts degree program designed to provide adult students with an opportunity to earn an undergraduate degree in a manner compatible with their educational needs and lifestyles. Its 1,050-acre campus is located in Macomb, 70 miles west of Peoria.
