Registering for the SAT Subject Tests

The SAT Subject Tests provide additional proof of your academic strengths. As with all college entrance exams, it's important to register early. Here are the 2012–2013 registration deadlines, test dates, and fees to help you plan ahead.

The College Board, which also administers the SAT, administers the 20 SAT Subject Tests. You may register for these tests online at collegeboard.com or by mail. The Subject Test registration fee is $23 plus an additional $12 for each test you take, except for the Language Tests with Listening, which are $23 each. You may take up to three different one-hour Subject Tests on one test date (only one of these may be a Language Test with Listening). You cannot take the SAT and SAT Subject Tests on the same day.

Score Reports

Your scores will be available online about three weeks after the test date. You may receive your scores by phone for a fee of $15. The College Board will send your scores to up to four colleges free of charge. The fee for each additional college is $11.

Students who plan to take any of the Subject Tests more than once may be able to have only their best scores sent to a college. If you do not specify this option (called Score Choice) when you register for the Subject Tests, your scores will be sent automatically to your preferred colleges. Be aware that some colleges require applicants to send their entire SAT Subject Test history. For more information, check with the College Board at collegeboard.com.

If the colleges that interest you require or recommend Subject Tests, plan on taking them early so you'll have the option of taking them again if you want. Good luck!
